The basic combo for Genji is Primary fire(from afar) -> Swift Strike when they are mid/low life -> Alternate fire -> Melee attack to finish. It's really effective but, as the hero, very difficult to master. Melee attack cancels the alternate fire animation, use it to quickly burst damage.

Genji has the ability of deflecting any incoming projectives every few seconds back towards the source, but it doesn't block projectives like lasers and Mei's freeze ray.

Swift strike no longer interrupt melee attacks. So You can't chain melee attack & swift strike as quick as before, now you've got to wait a split second between both. (08/2016 nerf)

Genji's Swift Strike can be used to reposition himself, but primarily can be useful to secure kills on a target. After securing a kill your Swift Strike's cooldown is immediately refreshed and you can use it again.

If you want to cancel your deflect. (e.g. you reflect a McCree's flashbang and want to burst him down during the duration he's stunned.) Latch to a nearby wall and immediately cancel your wall climb, this will cancel your deflect.

Memorize the location of every health pack on every map. You have no self-heal and will be far away from your team's support heroes in most circumstances, so you need to know where the nearest health pack is at all times to keep yourself alive behind enemy lines.

Combo : Fan Of blade + Swift Strike. Fan of Blades deals damage much faster than your basic attack and Swift Strike cancels the animation of Fan of Blades allowing you to burst high damage very fast. If you do everything right you damage output will be about 134.

Genji is much better in close range than he may appear, but don't forget to use his alternate fire (fan of knives) in close range situations when there may be multiple targets to hit.

Use reflect against an unaware Bastion that is focusing you. He will be more careful next time.

As Genji, using your Ultimate resets the cooldown on Swift Strike. This means that you don't have to wait to cast it if Swift Strike is on cooldown, and you can cover a lot of ground if it's off cooldown.

Genji's Deflect can repel enemy projectile ults.

Use your double jump, then climb on a wall and immediately cancel your wall climb, you'll now have an extra jump, effectively giving you a triple jump.

Don't spam Fan of Blades. If you're only hitting with one shuriken, then use your primary. Think of your alternate as more of a shotgun than an aim crutch.

Enemy heroes will instinctively shoot towards your direction when damaged. It is recommended to use Reflect early on the fight (after 1-2 Shuriken bursts), this guarantees the enemy has a full magazine and is caught unaware. If they're not falling for it, cancel your reflect with a Swift Strike.

The hero has very good mobility and can reach almost any spot on the map. That’s why you should try to be taking side routes in order to reach enemy suddenly.

Don't panic and Deflect as soon as you see an enemy. They may not have seen you yet and your Deflect will be wasted. Wait for them to notice you and take aim, and then Deflect. On the other hand, don't cast Deflect too late after the enemy has seen you. If you give them enough time to react to your presence and think about their actions they're more likely to predict you and not be fooled by the Deflect. In my experience the best time to cast it is about 1-2 seconds after the enemy has seen you, soon enough to give them little time to react but not so soon that they haven't noticed you yet.

Deflect can bounce back several ultimates, like McCree's Deadeye, Reaper's Death Blossom, Zarya's Graviton Surge, and even Hanzo's Dragonstrike (Dragonstrike requires you to deflect the initial arrow shot by Hanzo, before the two dragons appear).

Move around constantly while fighting as Genji. Deflect isn't the only way of avoiding damage. Climb up walls, double jump and occasionally Swift Strike in the middle of the battle to throw off your opponents. Also keep in mind, when using Deflect don't settle for blocking damage, aim to DO damage. Common practice is to keep your crosshair near your opponent's body or head at all times.

Don't try to aim while in the air, it most likely won't work. It's a lot more difficult to aim in the air with the shurikens (unless you're Seagull, who is a god amongst men), since you need to know EXACTLY where your opponents are going.

When Reaper looks like he is about to do his Ultimate (trying to centre himself in a group of friendlies), use get close to him and when he uses his Ultimate, deflect. You can often kill him before he kills any teammates.

Don't forget your double jump. He can reach higher areas easily with it + wallrun and it is a great way to annoy the enemy while in combat. Never stop jumping when engaged.

Genji is strong, but he doesn't have much HP. You should always try to grab the opponents attention when genji's arround, especially when the blade comes out

Winston is great for dealing with Genji as your primary fire goes through his deflect. Your jump also has a lower cooldown than his dash allowing for an easy chase

Genji's ultimate (Dragonblade) is capable of killing most targets "normal" targets immediately, tanks will require a few strikes to kill.

If you suspect Genji has not used his deflect yet, aim AOE attacks at ground below or near his feet to hit him with the splash damage.

Winston is a strong counter to Genji as he can bypass his deflect. A Genji's mobility make him hard to kill, Winston's lock on lightning gun bypasses this.

Be aware of his dash, it does high damage. Once he has done it, try to keep your distance.
